AT HOME

The console that became a fixture.

A guide to documenting an original PlayStation collection: console, controllers, media and the details between them.

01

Put the date in its region

PlayStation’s official timeline records the original console’s Japanese launch on 3 December 1994, followed by North America on 9 September 1995 and Europe on 29 September 1995. A launch year needs regional context.

02

Treat the set as separate objects

Record the console model, controller identifiers and the labels on memory cards. Photograph cables and packaging independently. A later accessory can be useful without being an original part of the set.

03

Document software carefully

For each physical game, record the title, printed product code, disc count and visible condition. Distinguish a case, manual and disc rather than using one vague completeness label. Keep personal save data out of photographs intended for public sharing.
